Green Report – September 2015

By 9th September 2015February 24th, 2017No Comments

Greens
The greens are currently in very good condition. In order to help to them throughout the winter maintenance work will be carried out on them later on this month (week beginning Monday 21st of September). We will be hollow coring, scarifying, top dressing and feeding them. This will help to remove thatch, ease compaction, improve soil structure and also help to keep them drier and firmer through the winter months. We will aim to do this over a 2 week period only targeting 2 to 3 greens each morning. This will keep disruption to the golfers to a minimum and also allow us to get on with normal course preparation each day.

Tees
As we head into autumn we have put the yellow and white tee markers together on some of the tees that take the greatest punishment. This is to help to preserve tee placements as recovery rates slow down with the cooler weather. The tees will be hollow cored in early October this will ease compaction and help to keep them playable over the winter

1st tee area
The turf to the side of the 1st tee has been down about 4 weeks now and is looking great. In order to give the best chance to allow the turf to knit together and root quickly could I ask all golfers to please stay off the turf? Once the turf has matured it will be regularly hand cut and striped

Old Sundial Area
The area where the sundial used to be situated to the rear of the clubhouse next to the 3rd fairway is now complete. It has been mounded landscaped and grass seeded.

Fairways
I would like to thank club members George Cuthbert, Bobby Cleland and Gary Cunningham for all their help in divoting the fairways. George has been divoting the fairways for many years the club is extremely lucky to have him. He has recently been joined by Bobby and Gary and all their hard work and dedication are greatly appreciated.

Flower Beds
The flower beds at the 1st tee and the white chipped area at the front of the clubhouse are being maintained by Pam Hall and other members of the ladies golf section. Both areas are looking fantastic and I would like to thank you for all your help and hard work it’s much appreciated.

Pitch Marks
Could ask that all golfers please repair their pitch marks. We are fixing dozens every morning by which time lasting damage to the putting surface has already occurred. Thank you

Golf Course Etiquette
Could I appeal to ALL GOLFERS to please use the tee bins provided and refrain from dropping litter on the golf course? THANKS
